About

Dr. G. Carlton (Carl) Moore Jr., BA, M.Div., Th.M., D.Min.; Ph.D. (ABD)

I have been treated far better than I deserve, and my life reflects the faithfulness of God and the prayers of many saints. I was born and raised by loving parents as the oldest of five siblings, growing up in a home where faith and church involvement were central. My family’s spiritual journey took us from Southern Baptist roots to a non-denominational, charismatic church in Richmond, Virginia, and later to the West End Assembly of God. From a young age, I loved attending Sunday School, worship, and church activities, laying the foundation for my eventual calling to ministry.

Although raised in the Church, I experienced a period in my life realizing I was without true saving faith. During a five-year hiatus from religious practice, my future wife, Rhonda, prayed persistently for my spiritual awakening. By God’s grace, I came to genuine faith in Christ, and shortly thereafter, Rhonda and I were married. God blessed our family with a son, Brad, who today walks faithfully in the Lord. It was during this season that my call to ministry became clear, first expressed through personal study, Sunday School teaching, and jail ministry at Trinity Assembly of God in Chesterfield, Virginia.

While working full time in drywall construction and pursuing my BA in Philosophy and Religion at Virginia Union University, I encountered Reformed theology through Dr. R. C. Sproul. This sparked a rigorous intellectual and spiritual journey that ultimately led me to embrace classical Reformed thought and Presbyterian ministry. I left the Assembly of God denomination, set aside my ministerial credentials, and pursued the path of a Presbyterian minister.

I earned my Master of Divinity (M.Div.) from Union Theological Seminary in Richmond, Virginia, in 2005, followed by a Master of Theology (Th.M.) in Theology and Ethics and a Ph.D. (ABD) in Systematic Theology and Ethics. In 2023, I completed a Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.), with a dissertation published in 2024 by Wipf & Stock entitled Kingdom Theology: Inaugurated Eschatology and Its Implication for Missions, integrating systematic and biblical theology to inform missions and missiology. I am currently working on a second academic monograph, Reformed Political Eschatology: Christ’s Reign and the Ordering of Civil Authority in Society, exploring the grounding of magisterial authority (Circa Sacra) in inaugurated eschatology.

My ordained ministry began with a yoked pastorate at Timber Ridge and Fairfield Presbyterian Churches in the Shenandoah Valley (2006–2014) and continued as Pastor and Head of Staff at Conklin Presbyterian Church in Conklin, New York (2014–2016). I have served in a variety of church leadership roles, including chairing the Maury River Mission Community, serving on the Committee on Preparation for Ministry, the Committee on Church Development, and currently the Presbytery Church Planting Committee.

Through every stage of life and ministry, I have witnessed God’s guiding hand and the faithful examples of men and women in the Church who modeled devotion, service, and integrity. My highest ideals are the doctrines of grace, and my goals in ministry have consistently been to live out the gospel through faithful preaching, teaching, and pastoral care. Currently, I serve the faithful saints at Starkdale Evangelical Presbyterian Church, a congregation within the Presbytery of the Alleghenies of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, and I am deeply grateful for the privilege of serving God’s people.

As Dr. Steve Lawson reminds us, “Salvation is not a reward for the righteous; it is a gift for the guilty.” I am a living testimony to that truth, and I rejoice daily in the undeserved grace of God.

I am Ginny Irvine. I have a photo of my cat I want to send to you and Rhonda. She helped care for it before I brought it home with me. She also sat with my Aunt Lucy Tolley. I have only met you once. I don’t know if I share with you or to Rhonda. irvineginny@gmail.com.
